The Academy

Founded in 1978, the Jennifer Evans Dance Academy is an established learning centre. Jennifer's dancing career was set for success when she graduated from the Australian Ballet School. First, she joined Dance Company New South Wales (a classical and contemporary company), then she moved to the Queensland Ballet Company where she danced as a soloist. Jennifer then returned home to join the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company.

These years of professional training and performing are what set the Jennifer Evans Dance Academy aside. However, Jennifer hasn't rested on her laurels, she has a fantastic team of talented teachers that specialise in the more modern styles, such as Jazz, Contemporary, Tap and Hip-Hop.

With studios in Karori and Khandallah, the majority of the classes are held at Samuel Marsden Collegiate School. Boasting facilities that mirror that of a professional level, there's a focus on creating a friendly, safe and progressive environment. Examinations, seminars holidays programs, choreographic opportunities and stage productions are available annually.

The Jennifer Evans Dance Academy is where friendships and confidence develop, as does a life-long love of dance.

Alongside Jennifer is Christina Lamaya. Christina has trained underneath Jennifer from a young age, completing all International Dance Teachers Association (I.D.T.A) Grades and Medal Examinations. She's passed all of the classical major exams with Distinction and has twice been the recipient of the New Zealand I.D.T.A Scholarship, which is awarded by visiting examiners from the UK.

Christina attended a dancing course at the Tanya Pearson Dance Academy in Sydney and completed a year's professional training at Te Auaha, NZ. Christina teaches classical ballet, jazz, tap and contemporary at the academy. She's a qualified and dedicated teacher, having passed Pre Associate 1 & 2 with Distinction. Christina now holds a Licentiate IDTA degree with Distinction and is currently preparing to complete the final two modules of her Fellowship.
